“And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” Luke 17:6
What does this verse mean to us?
This verse comes from a story in the Bible where Jesus was with his disciples. The disciples loved Jesus and they wanted to be closer to him, so they asked him to increase their faith. Jesus answered them by saying:
“If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
What Jesus is telling his disciples in this verse is that it only takes a small amount of faith for them to do God’s will. With even a tiny amount of faith, the disciples were able to go around preaching God’s Word, and even performing miracles in his name. Throughout his life, Jesus stressed very hard the importance of faith in his followers.
In the same way, we can do great things for God through our faith, even if that faith is as small as a mustard seed. Like John 3:16 tells us, if we believe that Jesus is God’s Son, we will have eternal life and God will bless us for our faith.
Sometimes in our lives we may doubt God, but it’s important to remember that with faith, even just a little, we can accomplish great things. If we can do great things with tiny amounts of faith, imagine what can be done if we have a lot of faith!
Let’s start the week off with a prayer.
Thank you for all your many blessings. Thank you that it only takes a little faith for us to do your will. Please God help us to have faith in you, in everything that we do. Amen.”
